The Barn

On the back of our 1/3 of an acre property sits this old barn. We are assuming it was put it with the house in 1918, but aren't sure about that one. I LOVE THE BARN!! I just love these old buildings like this, but this one was very old & damaged so we decided we needed to get rid of it. We thought about converting it into a garage but that was just way too big of ANOTHER project plus the cement on the barn floor had a trough running right through the middle of it so we'd have to do something about
that. We did find out though that long ago a vetrinarian used to live in the house & this was his barn and office. It explained ALOT when we learned this. There are a couple of odd looking rooms in the barn, not just one big open room, and it has the coolest loft upstairs! I'm gonna miss the barn!!

So in August, I think, it's been so long I can't really remember, we found an excavator who agreed to do the job for a price we could agree too. We actually ended up really liking this guy in the end of all the headache of getting the barn down. Anyway, here's the story...in August this guy tells us through a friend of his, who is a friend of my moms, that he will be out in 2 weeks to get the barn down. Two weeks pass & we here from no one. Four weeks pass & we hear from no one, so we call the friend of the guy because we don't have the guys number since his friend is the one who set everything up for us. The friend then eventually gets a hold of the guy 2 days later. The guy says he'll be there the next day or the day after that and never comes. This keeps happening over & over for weeks until we finally tell the friend we need the guys number. So after we get the guys number Jer calls and finds out he's been having all sorts of equipment problems...some sort of piston thing or something...I don't know, I'm a girl...so FINALLY after 2 months of hearing "I'll be there next week" & then being a no show & no calls, Jer gets a call that he's coming tomorrow. So guess what?!? He came!!! WOW we thought, but when Jer got to the house that afternoon there was a big monster machine there but nothing had been done...the guy ended up renting some equipment because his was taking too long to get fixed but when he got it too our house it wouldn't work either. At this point we decided the house is cursed and the barn is just meant to stay...then late one night, around 9:30 or 10:00, a few days later, Jer was at the house because, well...Jer's always at the house, he here's this loud roaring. At first he thought the machine in the back was being stolen, but when he went out it was a new machine that actually worked! So they drove the old one away and left this new one saying the barn was coming down the next morning and he'd take all out extra garbage for no charge if we just put it out by the barn! So the next morning, which happened to be last Saturday, the barn FINALLY came down. Now there is just this huge empty hole in the ground. I'm not sure you can see it very well in the pics but it's there. Sorry for the super long story but it had to go with the barn...I hope you enjoy the pictures though. The rest of the house is VERY slowly coming along...I'll keep you updated when I have some new stuff.
